Magic for reading: Harry Potter!

The very first thing that came up in my mind when I heard the word “magic” is Harry Potter. I was in the first year of my secondary when the vast popularity of this fiction burst out. I read it just like most children did that day, and thanks to J.K. Rowling! my reading habit has begun since when I finished the first book of Harry Potter. Before that, I had never picked up any book except cartoons (and of course, texts, too!) but this fiction fascinated me so much that I immediately continued on the second and the third, and though I had to wait for a long time before the others were released, my enthusiasm for reading remains in high degree. After finished some of HP novels, I started to read other Thai novels such as White Road, The Thief of Baramos, which I like so much too, for the writer’s eloquence and reflection to society nowadays, and some other short stories of Prabda's. But still, the most favorite book for me is Harry Potter because of its imagination: the existence of magic, Hogwarts School with many mysterious, intriguing things, and magical creatures.

After a long period of reading Thai novels, I started reading English ones, and if there’re no Harry Potters, I would not be interested in any books and keep my reading proficiency poor and far more slowly as it is now.

Thanks for casting a spell on me! J.K. Rowling!!

(As you may notice, I really have no idea to talk about magic so thanks to Pach’s strategy, changing the topic!! ;P)

But you change the topic so well! I also enjoy reading Harry Potter, and it looks like Por is a Harry fan as well.
Your experience with reading, and getting 'hooked' on reading through Harry Potter, is well known. Rowling has done reading a great service with her books. What is interesting is how she has been able to more from a childrens' story (the first few books) into a teenage and even young-adult series. The last book was quite dark, with the death of Dumbledor and apparent betrayal of Snape, and certainly not a 'chldrens' story any more. We must all wait till the next book!

N'Zar, I do like Harry Potter too, but as I mentioned to you earlier, I can finished reading HP in English. It's take me a long time to read only one chapter. Anyway, you writing in this blog give me a second thought about trying to read a novel in English again.

My aunt bought me the second book of Harry Potter, but I've never thought about reading it. After I read your blog, maybe I'll change my mind.

im not such a big fan of HP, i read only 20-30 pages for my entire life; but i do enjoy the movie.
Recently, my sister just gave me 2 of 'em, and i wish i will not too lazy to read 'em.
I dun understand why it's a hit for children, in my opinion it's not a suitable book for 'em. Yes, it's full of imaginations but violences are also.

This is just only my thought?

No, there're many people think like you as well coz i heard that there's an arguement pointing that Dumbledor's death is too much for children but JK argued that it's human nature or sort of that that i can't remember so much now. but i think those people can do nothing, can they?

I have not ever read Harry Potter. It seems like a thick book. However, I saw the movie and I also love it.
